Grafted Into Christ

When we trust Jesus as Savior, the Holy Spirit comes to live in us so He can accomplish God’s will through our life.

John 15:1-8

A vinedresser plants and tends his vines for the purpose of seeing them produce grapes. God, as our vinedresser, encourages us to bear spiritual fruit. He wants our character to show that we are new creatures (2 Corinthians 5:17)—marked by love, peace, and compassion rather than hatred, anger, and selfishness. For this reason, believers are grafted into Jesus Christ, the living vine.

Luke 4:1 describes the Lord as “full of the Holy Spirit” following His baptism. Jesus’ life and ministry were the result of the Spirit’s empowerment—and when we become believers, God sends the very same Helper to indwell us. In the language of vineyards, the sap from the vine flows into a grafted branch, giving it life and the capacity to grow the kind of fruit typical of that plant. The branch and the vine become one, and for that to occur, we should be “rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith … and overflowing with thankfulness” (Col. 2:7 NIV).

Once we trust in Jesus as Savior, the Spirit of God lives His life through us. When we are obediently following the Lord, our joy and peace are not dependent upon circumstances, and the One in whom we are rooted is our joy and peace.

Experiencing God’s Love

God’s love is offered to everyone without condition, but we have to accept it.

Ephesians 3:14-19

In today’s passage, Paul prays that the Ephesians will grasp the depth of Christ’s love. Though it is beyond human comprehension, the apostle says God will give spiritual understanding so we can experience Him more fully. But there are things that keep us from understanding and resting in His love. For example …

We think God’s acceptance is like ours, imperfect and conditional. The Bible tells us God’s compassion comes from His character and isn’t dependent upon our morality, choices, or thoughts. (See Romans 5:8.)

We often experience guilt when we recognize our sin. Sometimes this leads to feeling unworthy of the Father’s love. However, His love and forgiveness are greater than any sin. He promises that there is no condemnation for His followers (Romans 8:1).

We fall into the trap of legalism. This makes a person feel he or she must earn God’s favor. It also contradicts the truth that our Father loves His children without condition.

We struggle to reconcile God’s love and discipline. Though we likely don’t enjoy His correction, it flows from compassion.

Recognizing God’s love will bring peace and joy. May we let the Father’s love motivate us to walk in a holy and obedient manner before Him!

The Trials of Life

Though trials are painful, those who cling to God will benefit from them.

1 Peter 1:6-7

Most likely, you’ve heard the question, “If God is good, how can He let bad things happen?” Since the fall of man, life has always included hardship. Though trials are painful, understanding the Lord’s purpose can bring joy and hope.

The Word of God is clear that suffering is purposeful: God is conforming His children to be like Jesus (2 Corinthians 3:18). Sanctification, which begins at the moment of salvation, is the process of becoming holy—and few things build character like sorrow.

Another reason the Father allows trials is to test the faith of His children. Of course, He is omniscient and doesn’t need this for His own information; it is believers who benefit. Tested faith is stronger and more reliable than faith that remains untried.

Furthermore, God allows hardship in order to reveal His character, love, and power. During hard times, people who cling to their heavenly Father will find Him trustworthy and real. When the next difficulty arises, they’ll remember His faithfulness during the previous trial and will rest confidently in Him.

We can learn certain things from books and other people’s stories, but it is often during hardship that personal growth occurs. So, when problems occur and sorrow seems piercing, thank God for His purpose in your challenges.

Where Do You Go for Advice?

There are many sources of information available, but only Scripture is always true.

1 Timothy 4:4-10

Our thinking shapes what we believe, and beliefs in turn determine our lifestyle. Therefore, a biblical mindset is essential to our sanctification.

Where do you go when you want advice about a big decision or lifestyle choice? Websites, social media, and streaming services offer a wealth of information that can be either beneficial or harmful. Coworkers, family, and friends are also readily available sources of counsel, but do they speak with godly wisdom? Our only sure resource for true and wise guidance is Scripture.

In Hebrews 4:12, God’s Word is described as “living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword”—something that pierces into the deepest parts of the soul. Those who refuse to heed its guidance lose out on the invaluable direction and reassurance it provides. But those who are willing to be nourished by Scripture, accepting its reproof and correction, will discover the riches of a life of faith.

Letting the Word be your guide requires changes in thought, attitude, and behavior. Yet any lifestyle adjustments or disciplines that produce godliness also result in eternal profit. A solid foundation of faith and wisdom always includes going to Scripture for direction.

Morning Prayer

Ecclesiastes 3:11
He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.

This morning, I lift my prayer to Him who created the heavens and the earth, who ordained our existence before time began. In His wisdom, He made all things perfect, and by His mercy, He will surely bring to pass the good plans He has for us. We are wonderfully made, fashioned for greatness, and destined to reflect His glory.

May the beauty of His work shine in our lives and homes, and may His wonders never cease in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen. 🙏🏼

Good morning! Wishing you a day overflowing with grace and peace. 🌸✨

Sanctification: God’s Grand Plan

The moment we trust Jesus as Savior, we are adopted into God’s family and set apart with a sacred purpose.

Jeremiah 29:11-12

The heavenly Father has a plan for the life of every person, and it can be summed up with the word sanctification.

In its verb form—sanctify—the term means “to make holy” or “to separate.” So when something is sanctified, it is separated from its former existence and dedicated for sacred purposes. The Old Testament mentions a number of things that the Lord sanctified: He made the seventh day holy, set aside the Levite tribe as priests, and even consecrated places like the Holy of Holies inside the tabernacle (Genesis 2:3; Numbers 3:1-51; Exodus 40:9-11).

Our Father sanctifies people today as well. Before a person trusts in Christ, he or she is spiritually dead (Ephesians 2:1-3). But the moment the choice is made to place faith in Jesus, sins are wiped away and the individual is adopted into God’s family—set apart as a child of God with a sacred purpose. This means believers aren’t here to chase after personal gain but are to serve the Lord and bring Him glory.

As members of God’s family who are called upon to reflect Him to the world, believers are referred to as “saints.” We’re given this title—which shares its root with sanctification—not because we have attained sinless perfection but because we live a life consistent with the One we represent.

Bedtime Prayer

Heavenly Father, as we lay down to rest this last Wednesday night in August, we thank You for Your love, mercy, and faithfulness throughout the month. Lord, quiet our hearts and minds, and cover us with Your peace that surpasses all understanding.

“I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.” — Psalm 4:8 🌟

We release every burden into Your hands and trust You to renew our strength as we sleep. Heal what is broken, restore what is lost, and prepare us for the blessings of a new day. Surround our homes with Your angels, keep us safe from harm, and fill our dreams with hope and joy.

We end this day with gratitude, knowing You are with us always. May we rise tomorrow refreshed, renewed, and ready to glorify You.

In Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen. 🙏✨
